About Monteverde Cloud Forest

A cloud forest reserve at 1,400 m elevation with constant mist from cloud cover. Over 2,500 plant species, 400 bird species, and 100 mammal species in just 105 km2. The resplendent quetzal is the star attraction, best seen March to June. Started by Quakers in 1951. The cloud layer is rising due to climate change, threatening the ecosystem. The golden toad was last seen here in 1989 and is now extinct.
