About Magellanic Subpolar Forest
The southernmost forest on Earth, wrapping Tierra del Fuego and the Magellan coast. Relentless westerly winds prune the beeches into flattened flag trees. Lenga, coihue and antarctic beech form moss-hung stands, and the endangered huemul deer shelters among them. Rain and wet snow fall much of the year, making this one of the coldest rainforests anywhere.
