Fraser Island Rainforest
About Fraser Island Rainforest
The only place on Earth where tall rainforest grows on sand dunes, some rising 200+ m. Satinay and brush box trees draw their substance from pure sand, and the island holds about half the worlds perched dune lakes. Purebred dingoes patrol the forest edge. Sand mining ended in 1976 and logging in 1991. The Butchulla people know the island as a paradise created from the spirit K gari. A World Heritage Site.
