About Białowieża Forest
The last remaining primary lowland forest in Europe, shared by Poland and Belarus. A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Home to 800 European bison, the heaviest land animal in Europe, which was saved from extinction here. Some oaks are 400-500+ years old. Hunting was reserved for Polish kings and Russian tsars. The Belavezha Accords dissolving the USSR were signed here in 1991.
